Make FeenPhone work for THIS!
UPDATE: AFTER ALL THE WORK WE DID ON THIS, IT TURNED OUT TO BE TOO LOUD TO BE IN A RADIO STUDIO, WE’RE SELLING IT POST A COMMENT BELOW AND MAKE US AN OFFER. We got a much quieter one we’re working on.
(Update: here’s the post on the actual testing of the server.)

worms. We got a Dell PowerEdge 2950 Server to test FeenPhone running from the radio network. Takes up two rack spaces and weighs 55 pounds. One day this server will be in the Museum of LibPar Media in New Beastlick, California. But before then, it’s going to change media as we know it. Will be installed at our radio network, as a proof of concept for the ability of terrestrial radio shows to connect directly to the network without those dedicated and very expensive codec boxes (Comrex, Tieline, Telos, Barix, etc.) on each end.
.
Specs: 128GB RAID1 C: and 1GB RAID1 D: for backups and misc data. 16GB of RAM. Two 3Ghz CPUs. Total macho overkill (but appropriate for something running at the network level on live syndicated radio. MUST be reliable.) No programs except FeenPhone and remote access interface. It will run like a rocket in a vacuum.
.
We got it used on Amazon, no OS. This server used to live in a bank. We’ve saved it from having to work for The Man, and it will now only spread liberty. Spent some donations on it, I paid the rest. Was $250 bucks with the rails.
.
I got a sound card, M-Audio US41750 Audiophile 192 Hi-def Aud Card. Currently unavailable on Amazon, and no longer made, but great. I run my show from one at home. Paid 200 bucks for mine a few years ago, this one was 80 bucks. It kicks ass.

Derrick added a bigger hard drive, an OS (Windows Server 2012), and configured it.

This will not only be an ongoing proof-of-concept for how FeenPhone could operate professionally in commercial use, but will also allow me to take a night off occasionally and have two co-hosts do a show without me. Whee! For now it will only be used for Freedom Feens shows. But this same setup could be expanded to run all shows on any radio network. And none of the shows would need to buy a Comrex. Those boxes run between 1400-4000 dollars, and each show would need one, as does the network.
.
With this, the network would need a rack-mount setup like ours, but each show would only need their own basic computer plus a dynamic USB mic and headphones. And the network and each show would need FeenPhone, but FeenPhone is FREE! Shows wouldn’t even need a pro sound card or a mixer. This could also work for a commercial podcast or streaming Internet radio network. And if you added more sound cards to the server, and multiple instances of FeenPhone running on different ports, you could have more than one show happening at once.

Here are pix Derrick Slopey took of configuring this beast:
