FeenPhone is free, sounds amazing and works very well on a good computer when set up correctly. And the extensive documentation on this site will show you how to do that. However: If you are an end user wanting us to walk you through something, there is no longer any one-on-one support or hand holding.
.
We spent hundreds of hours making this free program great. It was a labor-intensive labor of love. Then we did hundreds of hours of free tech support on our free program for two years here via comments.
.
About half of the time it was cool, and people were appreciative. Occasionally they even sent us 5 or 10 bucks after 90 minutes of me or Derrick helping them. lol.
.
The other half of the time it was entitled little worms demanding one or more of these things:
.
–“MAKE YOUR FREE PROGRAM WORK FOR _____ OPERATING SYSTEM, FOR FREE, NOW!”
Our reply: The source code is freely available, and we allow non-governments and people who don’t work for governments or government contractors to alter it freely. So if it’s so important to you, why don’t YOU make it work for operating system ____ for free right NOW?
.
–“How do I set up my shitty new Yeti mic with the mixer I got for $29 dollars on Amazon, plus I am trying to use FeenPhone? And I want to record it, all on one computer. Tell me how, NOW!”
Our reply: This has NOTHING to do with FeenPhone. Not our problem.
.
–“I’m having a problem and your program must have caused it. FIX MY SHIT, NOW!”
Our reply: Our program did not cause it, you’re an idiot. And a quick Google search found me your solution, how come you can’t do that, and why do you get mad when I suggest that?
.
–“Your free help didn’t help me and I yelled at you and you yelled back. You fucked up, buddy! I’m a 33rd level hacker ninja and I’m going to ruin your life!”
Our reply: kek. lolz. If you were so bad ass with technology, you never even would have contacted us. You would have skimmed the quick start guide and had FeenPhone running beautifully in ten minutes.
.
–“I’m having issue ____ with your free program. Help me for free now!”
Our reply: This issue is explained on our extensive tutorial page, you just didn’t read it.
.
–“I’ll pay you for one-on-one help over the phone.”
Our reply: I tried accommodating this twice. I negotiated a reasonable fee, they agreed to pay it. I helped them, one person for one hour, one person for two hours. Got FeenPhone working great for both. They both “forgot” to pay me after I invoiced them. And ignored a few followup emails from me. After this I charged in advance, did that for some people, but it was often so crazymaking that it wasn’t worth it for me. People who need that much help with FeenPhone really should just use Skype. They’re not ready for FeenPhone.
.
We don’t get nearly as many demanding and unbalanced people on our other projects. I think it’s something specifically about podcasting: people who want to be heard and think their opinions are really important maybe tend to act more entitled, privileged and pushy.
.
FeenPhone is not for everyone. FeenPhone sounds WAY better than Skype, but FeenPhone takes a little more work than Skype to get it working and configured. FeenPhone is actual pro broadcast software. So you have to know a bit already about getting good audio on your local system, and a tiny bit about computer networking, to get it working. If this isn’t you, stick with Skype.
.
If you run a radio show and want to use FeenPhone but cant get it working, have your tech person read our quick-start guide and set it up for you. If they can’t handle that, fire ’em and get a new tech person.
.
There is EXTENSIVE documentation on this site, here, here, here and here. If you can’t get FeenPhone working from that, you should be using Skype instead.
.
Those support pages are SO damn complete. They deal with every single thing that we’ve heard of as an issue in two years of FeenPhone…..and everything I’ve encountered myself in two years of using FeenPhone almost daily with about 25 different show hosts on all kinds of gear and with all levels of computer savvy.
