So our developer, Derrick Slopey, had good luck running FeenPhone wirelessly on his Windows Surface Pro 2 tablet, but that’s a $750 unit. I wanted to see how FeenPhone performed on my used $200 Acer Aspire One Windows 7 netbook.

It actually worked amazingly well! Even on batteries and wireless. I talked to Derrick Slopey over it for a half-hour, walking all over the house, even in the basement at the far end of the house, as far away from the wireless modem as I can be and still be in the house (Didn’t try outside, was five below out!) Had no drop outs, and it sounded like he was in the same room talking to me.

This is not a great computer. It takes a while to boot up. Takes a while to load a web page. But it worked flawlessly via two-way conversation with FeenPhone over wireless Internet. I’ve tried Skype on the same computer wireless, and not only does it not sound as good, but I had drop outs when roaming around the house.

I’m going to use this for some of the long conversations I have with my close friends. FeenPhone is so much better sounding than “PhonePhone!”

I really hate telephones, especially as I get older and my hearing gradually gets worse (all those years in rock bands didn’t help!) Each year it gets harder to understand people 100% of the time over a phone.

This is also a good proof of concept for the possibility of developing inexpensive dedicated FeenPhone handheld appliances on small cheap computers. Maybe with 3D printed cases.
